ADMISSION AT SANTA MARIA COLLEGE
OUR SCHOOL POLICY – ADMISSION
We are a catholic school and we admit student into JSS1 to SS3. Student must pass a base-line test and supply reports from other school were necessary. Student of all nationalities and religious denomination are accepted into our programmes and everyone is giving an opportunity to excel. Acceptance is at the discretion of the school management subject to availability of space. The school reserves the right to refuse admission or to insist upon the removal of a student were applicable.
STAFF AND SUBJECT
The school is staffed with qualified, experienced and dedicated teachers. English is the medium of instruction within campus and all subject stipulated by the ministry of education are delivered. Our broad curriculum prepares candidates for junior secondary school examinations and senior secondary school examination.
HOMEWORK
Homework is essential if the terms syllabus is to be adequately delivered. After the first week children are given homework periodically to enhance their learning and prepare them for more challenging work. Parents / guardian are expected to supervise students home work and not do it for them. Parent are expected to sign consistently students home work dairy, failure to do this will lead to pupil suspension.
TERMS
The year consists of three (3) terms of 12 to 14 weeks. A week is Monday to Friday; school hours are from 8:00am to 4:00pm. All statutory and gazette public holidays are also school holidays.
HEALTH REGULATIONS
The school operates within a spotless environment. First aid facilities are available in the school, while we maintain a retainership with the closest hospital. Students who are ill should be kept at home. Any child suffering from any contagious illness or infection skin disease shortly before admission must provide a medical clearance certificate before he/she will be permitted to attend school. Qualified and registered opticians and dentists carry out yearly eye and dental checks on all student. Follow ups are however at the parent’s expense independent of the school.
ACCIDENTS / EMERGENCY
In the event (we do not pray for this) of an accident or emergency, first aid will be administered. If necessary the child will be taken to the nearest hospital.
GAMES AND SPORTS
Sports are conducted mainly during school hours. All students in the school have regular physical education lesson if the weather permits such activities to hold outside during school hours.
ARTS
Interest in arts is fostered at an early age. Students throughout the school are exposed to all forms of art, design and handcraft. They are actively encouraged to participate in school play and concerts.
CHILD’S PROGRESS
The staffs monitor and assess each child’s development daily through class work and home work and weekly through Friday tests. Parents are welcome to come in to discuss their child’s progress. We also have a strong commitment to parental involvement. Open days and work exhibitions are held from time to time.
